Which AI tool categories are gaining traffic in August 2026?

Jason T. · 2026-10-04

Video and image account for 57% of August's rising-sites board. Their median monthly changes are +6% and +12%, while productivity records +67% across 8 sites. We will check productivity's median and site count together next month against that August baseline. New Site Radar's August 2026 board covers 228 AI tool websites registered in 2025 or later. We measure traffic using third-party monthly visit estimates.

Category counts and median monthly changes

These are the categories with at least 6 sites. The change figures are median month-over-month changes in estimated visits.

For our next report, the productivity comparison will be explicit: the new median against August's +67%, and the new site count against August's 8.

Video and image lead by count, productivity by median

The concentration finding is clear: video has 70 sites and image has 61. Together, they account for 57% of the board by website count. Their median changes tell a different part of the story. Video's +6% and image's +12% are below productivity's +67%. We would describe August as concentrated in video and image, with a higher median change in productivity. We would not turn those observations into a recommendation to build in one category. Education also sits above both large categories on median change: its 6 sites record +14%. The difference from image's +12% is much smaller than productivity's contrast with image. Keeping the actual figures visible avoids treating every category above video and image as if it had the same result. Crowded, in this snapshot, does not mean fastest at the median. It means more websites appear in that category on the board.

Equal-sized groups have different results

Productivity and marketing each have 8 sites. Their medians are +67% and −1%, respectively. The shared count makes this a useful comparison: even when two categories contain the same number of websites, their reported monthly changes can be far apart. The 6-site groups show another spread. Chat has a +2% median, writing has −31%, and education has +14%. The larger groups outside video and image deserve attention too. Developer tools contribute 18 sites with a +2% median. Audio contributes 16 with −7%. Design has 10 with +4%. For readers comparing niches, this is why we report both measures in the same bullet. A count answers how many sites are represented; the median describes the group's monthly change.

How to read the sample

The board selects newer AI tool websites gaining traffic that pass our cross-check: we compare traffic estimates with a second source or a rank check. The visit estimates are not the sites' own analytics. The process is described in our method. A median says nothing about any single site; one site can grow fast in a category whose median is flat. Small groups can look extreme by chance, so we wait for more sites before reading a trend. Categories below 6 sites, including 3D, gaming and social, are too small for a median here.

Payment providers appear on 29% of sites

Across the 228 websites, 66 have a detected payment provider on their own pages. That is 29% of the board. The useful number here is the board-wide count of websites with that detected presence.

What to carry into next month's comparison

If you are tracking early traction, keep August's productivity result as a paired baseline: +67% median monthly change across 8 sites. Next month, compare the new median and the new count against those figures. We will report both, rather than revisit the percentage alone. Keep the concentration finding separate: video and image account for 57% of August's board. That remains the answer to where the largest number of listed sites sits, while productivity is the category we will revisit for its median change and cohort size. To examine the websites behind these category counts, a free sample is available on the board. The full board is part of Pro.
